Estonian self-study language courses for download

Estonian which is spoken by approximately 1 million people is a Baltic Finnish language that is closely related to Finnish itself. Though in practice these two languages are further apart than Swedish and Danish, or for that matter Swedish and Norwegian.
Many Estonian words are similar to their counterpart Finnish words, though one or more letters have disappeared, so the words themselves are somewhat shorter.

Compared to Hungarian and Finnish, Estonian is missing a certain harmony in the vowels, which is only to be found dialectically.
Estonian has nine vowels and fourteen consonants. Something which is quite unique in Estonian is that there are three lengths of the vowels, short, long and half long, which is something that is shared with few other languages. The Estonian language has 14 cases and there is no difference between the definite and the indefinite article.
