Danish has many dialects. National Danish is the officially recognized Danish language, used in television, radio and in teaching. Pronunciation of the national Danish is close to the dialects spoken on the island of Zealand and is said to have
emerged from the Copenhagen bourgeoisie. Danish is closely related to Swedish and Norwegian. Written Danish is easy to understand by both Swedish and Norwegians,
Spoken Danish is often difficult to understand for both Swedes and Norwegians.

Along with the other North Germanic languages, Swedish is a descendant of Old Norse, the common language of the Germanic peoples living in Scandinavia during the Viking Era.
